Child Support Matters
Contempt actions are suits filed to enforce the provisions of a final order of divorce. Contempt actions are used to force a party to do something the Judge ordered him or her to do in the original divorce. Generally, contempt actions are related to party’s failure to pay child support or allow visitation. A party who fails to pay child support may lose his or her drivers’ license or may be incarcerated. Alternatively, if you find yourself position where you are unable to pay child support due to a loss of employment or other problem, the issue should be a addressed with the Court immediately. The Court may temporarily modify child support or provide other relief until the financial situation is repaired. Lastly, if either parent has a substantial increase in income, the Court may, at any time, force that parent to pay more child support.
